Ivan's Childhood, based on a short story by Vladimir Bogomolov, tells the story of an orphaned boy whose family is killed by the invading German forces during World War I, and his subsequent experiences. Incorporating flashbacks and dream sequences, the film was one of the earliest Soviet anti-war films.

This is Tarkovsky's first feature film, and it may be my personal favorite of his. Ivan's story is incredibly impactful, told through great acting and beautiful camerawork. A really important look at the role/experience of child soldiers and the inescapability of war.
