Indochine

Set against the backdrop of the rise of the Vietnamese nationalist movement in the 1930’s, Indochine is the story of Eliane Devries, the seemingly repressed owner of a prosperous rubber plantation in French Indochina, and her adopted Vietnamese daughter. Her steely exterior, however, is only a mask intended to conceal the turmoil in her personal life.
